A party of monkeys was sent south to the ocean. Having learned from a witness that Sita was carried across the ocean, the monkeys selected Hanuman as the only one capable of leaping across the ocean. Thus Hanuman made himself huge and leaped high from a mountaintop, flying over the waves to Lanka in search of Sita.
