When Kumbakarna finally woke up and joined the battle, he wiped out thousands of monkeys with a single swing of his mace and scooped up handfuls of monkeys, thirty at a time, to stuff into his mouth and eat. Monkeys hurled rocks and mountaintops at him but to no avail.

Finally Rama killed him, first cutting off one arm, then the other, then his legs, and at last his head.
