The great war was ended. Sita was returned to Rama…but Rama feigned mistrust. Had Sita been faithful to Him or not? He offered her freedom. Crushed, Sita prepared a pyre, lit it and entered the fire. A moment later, the fire god Agni returned her unharmed, saying to Rama, “You must accept her; she is absolutely pure.”

Then Rama warmly received her. He said to her, “I knew you were faithful to me, but I wanted to prove it to the world so that no one can say anything against you.” Thus they were happily reunited.
